TuningSpork announces another solid addition to their roster, Italian duo Minimono, with the release of 'Nobody in da Club, Inc.' Fabio della Torre and Ennio Colaci joined up over 10 years ag (as a DJ and a sound designer respectively), and since then have released on labels like Telegraph, Tenax, Spontan, and Safari Electronique. 'Nobody in da Club, Inc.' is an album-length assortment of tracks that combine dancefloor functionality with emphasis on melody and mood. Not surprising, considering their musical influences include George Clinton and Thelonius Monk in addition to more expected names like Robert Hood and Dan Bell (who in return has included Minimono’s tracks in his sets). Minimono’s sound palette is quite varied, both spooky and sunny, and always filled with colorful detail. The eight tracks here are perfectly in line with the TuningSpork aesthetic, infused with funk, and they showcase the duo’s ability to approximate live instrumentation by programming and sequencing: just check out the punchy drums and plucky guitar on “Run” that develop into a housey groove. Minimono’s productions have filled dancefloors by way of Ricardo Villalobos, Matthew Dear, Cabanne, Alex Neri, and naturally TuningSpork boss Jay Haze – but with the underlying songcraft quality, you can enjoy Minimono’s tracks even when nobody is in the club.
